Is my child ready to attend Kindergarten?

Please check that your child meets the age requirements, as your child must have turned three before they can start kindergarten.

  • 4YO – Your child must turn four before 30th April

  • 3YO – Your child must turn three before 30th April*

*Your child MUST have turned 3 before they can commence in the 3YO program.

Kindergarten Readiness

Kindergarten readiness refers to a child’s readiness to make a smooth and successful transition and integration into the kindergarten environment and its routines and environment. These skill expectations include social, language, play, physical and self-care abilities which, when well established, make learning easy from both the teachers and the children.

The Bayside Council is offering a Kindergarten Readiness session on the 14th of May. Please see the link here: https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/explore-bayside/events/kindergarten-readiness-2024

Alternatively, If you would like to discuss kindergarten readiness with one of our Teachers please contact us directly.

Can my child repeat 3YO or 4YO kinder?

The Department of Education (DET) has stated a child can only have two years of funded kindergarten.

As we offer a 15-hour 3YO funded program at St Mary’s, this means that your child may only attend two years of kindergarten (3YO and 4YO) before they must move onto primary school.

Whist in some years it has been an option to purchase an ‘additional year’ of kindergarten, this is no longer the case, and all children requiring a funded position must be prioritised.

Immunisations

No Jab No Play laws require that all children attending Kindergarten must be immunised. Children must have an up-to-date immunisation status and an immunisation certificate from Medicare will be required and will need to be uploaded at the time of completing your enrolment form.
